Service companies are never sold at a premium. They usually go for slightly more than their run rate. My guess is, given the number of people @stake has had in the field recently, that the deal was between $20 million-$30 million max. Some of the IP will be used for new product development (does anyone know if dildog is going with the acquisition?) but the basis of the deal had to be to jump-start services for Symantec to compete against NAI. -----Original Message----- From: dailydave-bounces () lists immunitysec com [mailto:dailydave-bounces () lists immunitysec com]On Behalf Of djuti thoth Sent: Friday, September 17, 2004 12:16 AM To: dailydave () lists immunitysec com Subject: [Dailydave] Re: Symantec Buys @stake Since the last time I commented on a companies acquisition I received, mixed reviews, I thought this time I would just ask some questions. @stake and MS have always had a very tight relationship. In fact I would say MS provided a bulk of their steady revenue (e.g. Dan's dismissal). Now that Symantec stands behind @stake and given MS and Symantecs general disregard for eachother how will @stakers perceptions of Microsoft change? I agree with the earlier post that they certainly can not state true neutrality in hardware selection but now I'm wondering if their software recommendations will be. And as a business unit of their new company how will they perform if a lot of their work is yanked out from under them such as Microsoft contracts? And if I'm right about this, then who will MS choose to give their work to next? I'm also wondering, why didn't the press release disclose the size of the deal? Was it in cash or a stock swap? Didn't Symantec boast about it's acquisition price in the past? Riptech, Security Focus, Brightmail, etc all gave prices in their press releases. At least as I remember it, could be wrong on that one. It makes me think that the price here was incredibly high or dirt cheap. _______________________________________________ Dailydave mailing list Dailydave () lists immunitysec com http://www.immunitysec.com/mailman/listinfo/dailydave _______________________________________________ Dailydave mailing list Dailydave () lists immunitysec com http://www.immunitysec.com/mailman/listinfo/dailydave
