Some of you experienced problems when installing the updated version of VIP.386. The reason is that it is designed to work only with Winsock 2 and will break all networking when installed under Winsock 1. The Knowledge Base article (Q154174) fails to mention this. You can obtain the upgrade to Winsock 2 from http://www.microsoft.com/win32dev/netwrk/winsock2/ws295sdk.exe. We got conflicting reports as to the fix, when applied correctly, works. About two thirds report that it works for them, while for the other third is does not. Someone seems to have developed their own fix for Windows 95 called pingfix.zip back when sping first came out. Some people have reported this fixes the teardrop issue as well. I've attached a copy of it to this message. Beware, this is a binary program from unknown source. Try upgrading to Winsock 2 and using the patch to VIP.386 first. You assume _ALL_ of the risk of using it. If you are dumb enough to try it on a production machine and it format your hard drive it is your fault. Do not use dryer while bathing. If you develop a rash call your doctor. Do not handle heavy machinery while under the influence. Chew then swallow. Etc. We also got conflicting reports of whether if affects unpatched Windows NT 4.0 machines. Paul, you care to give an official (or unofficial for that matter) statement as to if fix should work, and if not, if there is a fix on the works?
