nmap: how to drill further on a filtered port

Hi All,

I am drawing a blank on Google with this.

My firewall has an internal port open to do logging with.
I know the turkey is there because the log client works.

When I probe the port, I get back "filtered". Is there
a way to drill down on the guy and probe further?

That would help me out on other ports I find open along
the way. Good practice going after ports I know are there

Many thanks,
-T
