Kernel modifications for security purpose

Hi guys,

Firstly let me apologize about my english. Well, I'd like to ask about some good ideas to implement or modify in the 
linux kernel for security purpose.
The point is that I'm currently studing operational systems in college and I thought that trying to modify the kernel 
will grant me a  significant rise in my learning since i intend to work with security.
