Hi Tim,

I would discourage you about using a netbook with virtual
machines...the hardware is not powerful enough to run e.g. 3 virtual
machines together. I have used an Acer Aspire One with Atom N450 and 1
GB of ram with a VM with windows 7 running with 512 MB of ram...it is
really frustrating when any application takes minutes to start...

If you plan to use a netbook, I think you have to exploit all the
advantages from such a solution (e.g.: it could be hidden somewhere
without trouble, you could sniff wireless packets while walking around
with the netbook running in a bag, etc...): install a linux distro
without GUI (or with a minimal gui), install all the tools you need
and enjoy it without VMs.

I says "with no gui" because it wastes a lot of power in a useless way
and because some command line tools are available as replacement of
other tools which depends from a GUI (eg: tshark instead of
wireshark).

These are my 2 cents :)
