Good day Rob,

Unfortunately when you deal with companies such as Kinkos, or other
companies that mass produce book, this is bound to happen.

Understood.

I can definitely say that it was in two books. I never bothered
inquiring into the rest of my class. Just me and my co-worker. I
basically finished the class with two days left. I didn't think that
there was really enough time to inquire into anyone else.

Though I'm pretty curious as to what our class online was like that day.
I wonder if anyone else brought up, I don't see what you're talking
about... ;p Due to time, I was only able to attend a few of them.

Maybe that's the difference though - does everyone read every single
page? I did. But I had to...not that I wouldn't have.

I teach classes regularly and almost every quarter I will run into books
that have been printed backward, upside down, pages that are smudge,
pages that are missing, or in some case hundreds of pages missing. If
it was every single books then there would be consistency but sometimes
it is only a few of them for no evident reasons.

Isn't that what "Quality Control" is for?

The next time talk directly with your instructor, I am sure he can help
you fix the issue quickly.

You are correct. That was actually what I ended up doing. I spent a
few weeks going the other route. Finally talked with my instructor and
he got things moving almost immediately.

Anyway, I am glad to see I am not the only one frustrated by this problem.

As am I. I was beginning to feel very petty over the whole thing.
Typos are just annoying, but a section missing? I just didn't
understand. It seemed to me like everyone else looked at it as not a
big deal. I was horribly disappointed and frustrated. I bombed that
section in the practice area. ;p

Take care

Thank you for your comments. They are appreciated.

Hopefully...if anyone else runs into this, it will help them.

Hello,

Does anyone know how many certs/exams are required for the GIAC designation?

It can be pretty confusing... ;p

I looked at the SANS site and see 13 listed under the Security
Administration heading.
Does anyone know for sure what is required?
http://www.giac.org/certifications/roadmap.php

If you do choose to take one, one thing to watch for...

My books were not okay. Pet peeve of mine, horrible and a gross amount
of typos. While I'm not very well spoken, these you couldn't miss.
Sentences that made no sense. Paragraph long sentences that you have to
read approx 3 times just to begin to grasp what was written because it
makes no sense.

With that said, the real kicker. Math problems missing the Operator. A
FULL SECTION MISSING IN ONE BOOK...

I honestly do not think that it will happen again. But this was my
experience. I am not writing this to talk smack. To be honest when I
reported it - it took a while to get through to anyone - but they seemed
to take it seriously. I do not think it will happen again. I am only
writing this as four grand is a lot of money to spend on a cert. It
should be right, the first time, no exceptions.

We are learning excellence and my experience was far from excellent.

I have gone back through and verified most of what I have learned, which
is A LOT, and I do not doubt the quality of the education.

BTW - Rick Smith was my instructor and he was great! I took the GSEC.
While I'm still frustrated with what happened, I do not regret it.

I hope that this helps in some way.

Thanks

Ren
