The driving vs flying analogy may not be the best. If you had a 1000 mile
trip to make and knew before that you WOULD have an accident midway whether
you flew or drove, which would you do? Lots of people walk away from
automobile accidents ... very few walk away from plane crashes.

Well, not so much that they do not want to be secure, but rather that we as
human's in general do not comprehend and respond to risk in a logical manner.
People (generalised) are afraid to fly, but they get in a car after a few
drinks.
