I also looked at the specifcation of SeCude, Am I mistaken to read that
in it's "most secure" form, it uses a USB disk/smart card and boots
LINUX

Yes. I believe Secude use a hardened linux kernel for pre-boot
authentication using bio-metric/smart card/RSA tokens etc....
