Sounds like you got caught and you need to defend yourself.

Just because a bank doesn't have a big sign on it "It is illegal to
rob this bank" doesn't mean that  the punishment for robbing the bank
is any less severe.

IANAL, but accessing any system with which you don't have the proper
authority is still illegal, regardless of any warning banners.
