Right now in my current position, I am pretty much the only IT guy. I have very limited resources so I try to exploit any advantage that I can. Whenever possible I throw an nmap scan or two at our firewall from my home or maybe a nessus scan. Since I am the one handling the network, I feel that a scan from home adds more a bit more security in the sense that I get to see the corporate LAN from the outside. Also, I know what traffic to ignore in the logs the next day. Just my .02
