You can kill the parent SSHD process without killing your session (the
child). Look at the PID's to be sure. Then restart the SSH daemon.

Whats the proceedure for updating SSL when your only access to the box
is 
using the existing (SSH).

 Install the package and restart SSH. Usually SSH will come back online
even before you 
connection drops. The update won't change your keys, seaming their tied
to the local 
system, it only updates the software.
