Sorry for the late response. There's a great tool to maintain database of IP/MAC addresses.
Its called arpwatch, you can grab it at : http://www.securityfocus.com/tools/142
you can also find an rpm version on redhat linux installation.

It sends you mail whenever a new MAC joins the network. works great.
