I replied to this once already but never saw the post show up. If you are talking about a real live modem connected to
your machine, WinPcap won't be able to monitor it under Win2k or WinXP. This affects every app dependent upon WinPcap
including Ethereal. This is covered at length in their FAQ.

Note that a DSL or Cable modem will be a different matter *if* it is an external device that plugs into your computer
through an Ethernet NIC - in which case, there is no problem since WinPcap is really watching the NIC, not the modem.

Subject: Installing WinPcap for Windows XP

I'm trying to run Ethereal so I can see what's going on with my modem. I've tried to install WinPcap as I have been
told I'm supposed to but I've not been able to find the .inf file to install a driver like it was reported I need to
do. I've looked on Google and at WinPcaps webpage to try to find out if there may be any thing that I've missed, but
from what I've looked at, everything appears to be installed correctly, but it isn't working.

Thanks in advance,
