It is not necessarily illegal to monitor your own network.  There is no
expectation to privacy, especially in a network environment unless they are
using encryption.  ECPA does allow a company or service provider to monitor
their own network.

My 2 cents ...
1. The basics of Law, Ethics and Investigation says, Never do anything
that is unknown to user. Monitoring email activity without user
knowledge is illegal and your company can be sued for billions of
dollars.
2. Now atleast I know that your company is doing this type of activity.
These type of questions should be kept confidential. Posting on public
website, ad then asking for secrecy does not serve any meaning. There
are great chances that other user from your company have subscribed to
this email list.

Greetings list:

I am looking for a way to monitor a particular user's e-mail for legal
purposes.

What they want to do is have all outgoing mail from this user to be
routed to a manager for approval before being sent.

Of course, they want to do this without that particular user knowing it
is happening, and without buying anything new.

They currently are using Exchange 2000 and Outlook 2002 for their e-mail
system.

Any suggestions?  I thought that I had read something in this list some
time ago.
