We use Observer at my place of employment and it works great. It has
saved us time and headaches many times. It is worth the investment.

Hello James,

There is an eval for Observer from www.networkinstruments.com
but be aware that it has a form to fill in first.
http://www.networkinstruments.com/downloads/observer_form.html
and the eval has two 'modes'. Dummy data but no time-outs and
a 'live data' mode with your real data but 200 packets or 1 minute
time-limit. Not really useful if you don't want to purchase the
program but a great way to show the boss that you need it.

It will work with any NDIS supported NIC including 802.11a or b.

Can anyone recommend a non-*nix wireless sniffer that I can
download an
evaluation of?

There appears to be a good few out there, but I cant manage to
find a
downloadable eval.

Thanks

JM
