I agree with the opinions about the books suggested here. Undoubtedly "Hacking Exposed" is the best book around, written by Stuart McClure, Joel Scambray and George Kurtz. "Maximum Security" and "Maximum Linux Security" are not always the definite source for information. They sometimes lack some info, but for a beginner Maximum Security would be a nice start. Another comment about the Maximum series is - guys SATAN is long gone ... but they still mention it as a premium tool, well yeah right. The source for understanding TCP/IP is the wonderful book, written by the late author Stevens, TCP IP Illustrated Volume I. Use Phrack archives to learn more about exploits and vulnerabilities. When you see an article by Mudge, Aleph1, route or dildog - do yourself a favor and read it! Use www.securityfocus.com if you are looking for documentation with specific subject. The site has a very good documentation archive. Hope this summery is helpful Ofir Arkin Webmaster www.linuxpowered.com Email: webmaster () linuxpowered com
