yeah.  those are md5 hashes, much like freebsd (and now openbsd).
that's three fields, all preceded by dollar signs.

They *are* from FreeBSD.  In fact, according to
<http://www.freebsd.org/~phk/> Cisco just picked up one of the versions of
FBSD crypt.c.  I am sorry for not stressing that point further.

well...i didn't say it wasn't from freebsd.  i only said it was like
freebsd.  not exactly a denial...  :)

ps - changing the subject a little...can people please arrange that
their vacation programs don't spam senders with little messages about
how you're away?  i really don't care.  and who's in charge here,
anyway?  can i send you a list of "bounces" that i got?
