prepare_tpacket_socket() sets the "reserve" for VLAN tag reconstruction to 4; the "reserve", along with the maximum packet size, is involved in calculating the frame slot size. (It's complicated, which is why I'm in the middle of writing a long comment in the code explaining what's in a frame slot, and how the calculation of the frame slot size is done.)- This is the tcpdump-workers list.
