You want some kind of port mirroring<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_mirroring> . On Mon, Nov 1, 2010 at 8:57 PM, Andrej van der Zee < andrejvanderzee () gmail com> wrote:
Hi, I am looking for a solution that sniffs all HTTP traffic to the load-balancer in a multi-tier web application, but WITHOUT starting tcpdump on the load-balancer itself. The sniffing has to be isolated on a dedicated machine, without having to change anything to the web application itself. If the dedicated sniff-machine shuts down, the web application CANNOT be affected. The dedicated sniff-machine should run Linux, preferably Ubuntu. I am looking for a cheap solution in terms of hardware. But most important is that the solution is non-intrusive to the web application to be sniffed. I am sure I am not the first, so any help appreciated! Thank you, Andrej - This is the tcpdump-workers list. Visit https://cod.sandelman.ca/ to unsubscribe.
