Re: Snort as a HIPS

I've never done HIPS with Snort, only NIPS. Have you tried using
NFQUEUE on both the input and output chains, sending everything to the
same queue, and monitoring that queue in one instance of Snort via NFQ DAQ?

All this inline talk has got me wondering...my understanding of inline
is:

Use afpacket with interface pairs where snort is used to "bridge" the
pairs (NOT kernel bridge). This will catch all packets.
Use nfq AND a single iptables table which will catch any packets sent
to the table queue.

So...as a hips I'd want two tables looked at.. my INPUT and OUTPUT
tables...is there a way to do this without needing two running snort
instances? Thanks.
