It occurred to me we might be having intermittent network issue, but I was

I am able to reach the Snort rules from my browser if that means anything.

Neither my server or workstation is able to ping snort.org <http://snort.org>,
however, though that may just be their firewall setting.

Do you have any suggestion on what kind of checks to conduct? I asked our
network guy and his opinion was that we should be able to reach Snort.

what does a traceroute show?

or possibly a pingplotter run? i use pingplotter in certain cases when it seems
that traffic is being lost in a route along the way... google them and grab a
copy of the free version if you are on winwhatever... i'm not sure what would be
compatible for non-winwhatever workstations :(
