Hi Peter,

I would recomend "Snort 2.0 Intrusion Detection" by B Caswell,J Beale,
J, Foster and J Posluns.

I picked it up from Amazon about 2 weeks ago and have 2 chapters left to go.
Like you I prefer to read a good book or 3 about technology I want to use
before I install anything.

This book had the best reviews I could find and I must agree - it's excellent.
