Does anyone have a script for cleaning out the database of old entries?

Hello guys,
I've got a lot of alerts in my MySQL database.  I'd like to have a script that runs once a month and deletes all the 
alerts that are a couple of months old.  This could free up space on the hd and hopefully make acid run faster.
I've trolled around in the archive for this list a bit and I haven't found any example ones.  Has someone already 
created such a script?
