I had similar problems on Redhat 7.1

Since yesterday evening I've been running the recently announced 1.8.1-beta6
with no problems. http://www.snort.org/files/snort-1.8.1-beta6.tar.gz

My fingers are still crossed, but since trying this version, I've had no
segmentation faults.
