Norton's Internet Security, and getting it set up to provide as much
protection as possible (along with the appropriate XP security settings) I
come over to find it disabled because their kids couldn't download Kazza...
If I was not the one that would have to rebuild it for them (we are friends
after all) I would just leave the door open so that they would get what they
deserve, lesson learned...

I personally have a real low opinion of 'personal firewalls' anyways, not
only because of the fact it requires such knowledge of the end user, i
really think such things should be dealt with at a router level before
they ever reach the end users computer, security is layers- and i think
its inferior security to discard that layer. I was quite upset when i was
setting up a linksys router for my girlfriend a while back and when i
clicked on the ip filter/whatever its called table, it was actually a link
for me to go download (and buy) a 3rd party personal firewall.

At any rate, dont take my comments about the neighbor who fixes the
computer as totally derogatory, i realize there are plenty of people who
know what they are doing who help their friends/neighbors/whatever, it
just frustrates me that people will listen to *anyone* about computers if
they use enough buzz words.
