Fwd: Recover full environment

I've seen this recommendation a couple of times, and given the age of the computers and the OS/processor overhead of VMWare, this doesn't seem like a viable option. Given the age of the systems (and therefore the size of the drives), I personally would just create a dd image of one of the systems and blow it out to all of the systems at the beginning of each night.

I've been thinking in DVL (damn vulnerable linux), although any other option is welcome. In any way, they're intent to be some kind easy to root and I don't want to reinstall them every short time manually, so the question is: Is there any software/script/methodology that you recommend me to restore their full environment every night?
