Has anyone ever heard of a tool named "ICMPpush"? or something similar? which works a s an ICMP-specific packet builder for various ICMP types. It is my understanding (or lack thereof) that on dummy terms or other hosts which may (firewall or otherwise) prevent normal ICMP traffic, may indeed allow other types through for various "are you alive?" purposes.
ICMPpush was great - the same author (Slay) has also published a more advanced tool called SING. SING adds support for fragmentation, source routing, fingerprinting, mimic techniques, an just more control over the packet overall. If you are interested in packetshaping, you might want to check out my Whitehats security tools archive. There are currently 28 tools in the packetshaping catagory, including icmppush and sing: http://whitehats.com/tools/packetshaping/ Max
