I worked at an ISP and I always hated getting involved in a customers internal network settings. It leads to more support calls for the ISP and alot of effort for the customer just to make simple changes. You need an edge device that you alone control. Ask the ISP to set the modem to bridge mode and connect your router/firewall. You are correct that there is no security in giving your network design and wpa keys to your ISP.
