Just finished "Fools Experiments" by Edward Lerner (Thanks, Dr. Fowler, for the book!). Good story: a software application takes on characteristics of a living being and struggles to survive, with predictably disastrous results. As my high school english teacher used to say, "willing suspension of disbelief" is required. Good read!
