So out of curiosity, Degaus of tape media - will that render the tape useless also?
I'm not up to speed on the latest in tape technology, but in the past, you could re-use degaussed tapes. The difference between the two is that control track contains data that tells the drive mechanics how to do their work. With tapes, that functionality resides in the tape drive. - Chris Merkel
