Isn't laziness what you are trying to emulate? A default installion is improperly secured. In cases like this laziness 
is a virtue.

demonstrates you're capable of performing the task?

Do you need to use a specific distribution/DNS package (per
requirements of your professor) or just using 'dig axfr domain.xxx' to
demonstrate that you have access to something that will transfer?
