Robin, That feature is in RockBox, known as a bookmark. Not exactly a desktop app, but I thought it fits the criteria of 'open source media player'.
I like the look of that and have a sansa so it may work. Weird thing is, I'm not nervous about flashing a fon but when it comes to my mp3 player (same price) I feel a bit uneasy! Robin

I hate getting partially into a podcast on my pc then coming back to it the next day and having to remember where I left off. If I could bookmark where I was in the track I could come back whenever I wanted and be straight back to where I was. It has to be possible to use a tag to record the current position when a track is stopped then restore to there when starting again. I bumped into a top boss from the ipod team after my first shmoocon - amazing how you get talking to in restraunts - and suggested it to him. He mustn't have liked it as it hasn't made it in as a feature yet. Any open source media player developers reading this and fancy a challenge? Robin 2009/1/5 Raffi Jamgotchian <raffi at flossyourmind.com>:wtih emails I check right away and delete or move anything. I started working with filters to autotag stuff, but very early on. I also have too many email accounts. work (consulting), soccer (I'm the town commissioner), blogging site/social networking, and personal. I plan on combining some so that will help the number of boxes I need to check. As for podcasts, I too have a long commute and while I'm on a job site and not interacting with clients I have my headphones in. For Blogs, I use NewsGator and NetNewswire which also syncs with my iphone. I'll browse through blogs at random times, but lately I've fallen behind. I started eliminating blogs and combining others using Yahoo pipes. I allow certain blogs to come through unfiltered like the security related ones. Anyway. You have to find a way that works with your schedule and work habits. Don't use an ISP email address. Get your own domain and/or use one of the internet services like gmail and yahoo. From there, I sync my Google account with Byline on my iPod Touch that caches everything for me to read offline when I'm doing everything from riding the bus to feeding one of my infant twins. I can star the items that I want to review further and do that on my laptop later on. Podcasts: iPod Touch comes into play here, again. I sync up and listen when I'm cooking, riding the bus, walking around campus, waiting for a meeting, etc. Hope that helps. Good luck, -jhs _______________________________________________ Pauldotcom mailing list Pauldotcom at mail.pauldotcom.com http://mail.pauldotcom.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pauldotcom Main Web Site: http://pauldotcom.com_______________________________________________ Pauldotcom mailing list Pauldotcom at mail.pauldotcom.com http://mail.pauldotcom.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pauldotcom Main Web Site: http://pauldotcom.com_______________________________________________ Pauldotcom mailing list Pauldotcom at mail.pauldotcom.com http://mail.pauldotcom.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pauldotcom Main Web Site: http://pauldotcom.com_______________________________________________ Pauldotcom mailing list Pauldotcom at mail.pauldotcom.com http://mail.pauldotcom.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pauldotcom Main Web Site: http://pauldotcom.com
