If anyone out there can point me to a protocol description of
JetDirect/IPDS/PPDS or a packet capture of some of the control

Attached is a pcap file captured from printing a simple 2 line text
file from windows notepad. Hopefully this will help. I wasn't able to
find much online about a protocol description of JetDirect.

Hey Aaron,

Thanks for providing this capture. It gives me a better idea of what
the protocol looks like.

Unfortunately your machine only sends data, it never gets anything back
from the printer. Service fingerprinting needs to get some set of
bytes back from a probe to do matching.

I've read that JetDirect can be used to do things like check printer
status, check paper and ink levels, etc. Do you have a utility (HP
provided?) that will tell you the status of the printer? If you could
capture that I think it would go a long way towards improving our
printer detection.
