Sure, in a few minutes. I noticed the SMTP commands script also
times out on port 465 (SSL/SMTP). That script passes in
port.protocol to the socket connect. Is the protocol for SSL
wrapped ports still TCP?
I found some hosts I could test these mods on:

465/tcp open ssl/smtp
|_ smtp-commands: EHLO <snip>, ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES, AUTH LOGIN PLAIN,
AUTH=LOGIN PLAIN, PIPELINING, 8BITMIME, SIZE 104857600
995/tcp open ssl/pop3 Courier pop3d
|_ pop3-capabilities: USER IMPLEMENTATION(Courier Mail Server) UIDL
PIPELINING LOGIN-DELAY(10) TOP

so I've checked them in.

Regards,

jah

Yup, working for me too:

465/tcp open ssl/smtp syn-ack Sendmail 8.13.6/8.13.5
| smtp-commands: EHLO noh.ucsd.edu Hello <snip>, pleased to meet you, ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES, 8BITMIME, SIZE, DSN, AUTH
DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5, DELIVERBY, HELP

And:

995/tcp open ssl/pop3 syn-ack Cyrus pop3sd
|_ pop3-capabilities: USER EXPIRE(NEVER) UIDL APOP TOP AUTH-RESP-CODE RESP-CODES PIPELINING IMPLEMENTATION(Cyrus POP3
server v2 2 10) LOGIN-DELAY(0)

Thanks a bunch, Jah!

I'm not sure the SMTP-commands script should print the banner in
addition to the capabilities but I haven't looked at what else it does
yet.
