I'm happy to report that the Nmap 4.50 release has gone well so far! No major problems have been found. Now we just need to tell the world about it! So if you guys can either submit it to news sites, or vote it up on news sites, that would be great. For example, it has been posted to Digg: http://digg.com/security/Nmap_Turns_4_5_10_Year_Anniversary_Edition http://digg.com/security/Nmap_4_50_Released But it needs more votes to get to the front page. So if you have an account, please digg it. Also, I just checked the Slashdot Firehose and there are a few stories about the release. You just go to: http://slashdot.org/firehose.pl Then type nmap in the search box and hit "Filter". The one with the title "mapping the net..." has hardly any submission text. So I voted for "NMap 10th anniversary and 4.50 release" despite grammar and capitalization issues, and I also voted for "Nmap hits the Silver Screen (Again)". You may have to be a registered user (and possibly a subscriber) to vote for these. Also, the release is already on Freshmeat. Those are two sites I use, but there are probably other good places for it. If you post something, that is great. But here are a few suggestions: * Be sure to link to the announcement: http://insecure.org/stf/Nmap-4.50-Release.html * Be sure to say what Nmap is (calling it the "Nmap Security Scanner" is probably enough) * Watch your grammar and spelling, as some people are really sensitive to that. The 4.0 release made news all over the World, and I think 4.50 is an even better release!
