I can tell it has been a long weekend here; I find myself agreeing with Mark Andrews.Where do the forward records for these random devices come from?
From a domain name typed into a configuration panel on the home gateway, updated in the same manner (find the zone cut, find the MNAME, send a DNS UPDATE)? Presumably if a domain name is not specified, no DNS UPDATEs occur. I'm not commenting on the need or proper desire to have matching PTR/AAAA records for the addresses at the provider edge, I'm just saying that the mechanism Mark described seems plausible. Joe
