Someone needs to define back-plane/control-plane in this case. (and what wasn't working)

During the height of the problems, what I saw was a Netflix A record pointing at a broken ELB. If there was an ELB to 
point to in another AZ, it wouldn't take anything from Amazon to change that A record, as Netflix uses ultradns.
