Of course, if he had local AC power available, it would kinda defeat one of
the points of having PoE, which is to be able to put switches where there
isn't a convenient AC drop to begin with.

But wait, there is more...

Maybe you want your POE devices (like phones) to stay alive during a power failure, without having to put UPS's 
everywhere.

And anything else that is POE (cameras, thermostats, etc)
