I think that Robert is 100% on the money about breaking the urban/suburban fiber oligopolies being the only way out for US broadband competition. And since fiber, like coax (cable), electricity, water and POTS is a natural monopoly, the regulators would have to, a la france, japan and some other countries, mandate resale at the wholesale level. And not that retarded resale of dsl access to the clecs that was higher than their retail price to consumers. Whatever twisted regulatory logic called that actual competition was warped beyond belief.
