In my Beijing hotel room this morning CNN aired a piece about Yahoo calling for search engines to cooperate to deal with China's "search engine rules." Not surprisingly, as the correspondent was about to say the word "c**sorship" (my inference) the sound went blank for several seconds.
Well yes - but its not like TV news stateside doesn't have 5 second delays and a liberal use of *bleep*s where necessary. The great firewall of china is a fairly well known fact of life. And if you have ever set up an internet business in china, or registered a .cn domain name, you get to sign this interesting looking agreement first that says "no porn, no politically sensitive content, must comply with all applicable chinese laws" etc srs -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2 (MingW32) iD8DBQFD8fC8h0VyAToQeqERAmSiAJ9QiFFTF3vdJFt7ZrYkq57ukWK6jQCfRdPl nXDuKd4QbTcioTFD9gS3wqo= =GJ5r -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- ------------------------------------- You are subscribed as lists-ip () insecure org To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
