Palm to purchase Handspring

Hi Dave,

It was just announced today that Palm will be purchasing Handspring.

Handspring, which was founded by Jeff Hawkins and Donna Dubinsky -- who
co-founded Palm -- in the past few years has switched its emphasis from
"plain" PDAs to wireless enabled "communicators," for both GSM and CDMA
cellular networks. Handspring does not have a PDA with integrated WiFi or
Mobitex.

Palm has a few wireless-enabled devices, such as the new WiFi-enabled
Tungsten W and the Mobitex-enabled i705.

It will be interesting to see how the two companies approach wireless.
Technologically, it looks like a good match since both companies offer PDAs
with different types of wireless capabilities.
