IP: Brazil chooses digital TV standard -- Japan

According to Brazilian sources cited by Cristiana Lobo in the site 
www.ig.com.br ,
the Communication Ministry Group "Set--ABERT" has choosen the Japanese
standard of digital TV for 160 million Brazilians, after also evaluting 
the US and
European standards.

The official announcement will be done in September, according to the sources,
after a dialogue with Argentina.  The subject is complex and will have 
important
market consequences outside Brazil given the emerging common market in the
