two cents: back during the Great Irc Wars, i used to watch people spoof strobes to IrcOppers boxes on undernet. then, about 10 seconds later, you would see the user whose host was spoofed sign off with messages like "DO *NOT* ABUSE MY NETWORK, AND KISS YOUR ACCOUNT GOODBYE; I KNOW YOUR PROVIDERS ADMINS PERSONALLY" as a furious opper banned him from the network. what im getting at; contacting an upstream about a strobe may not be such a bad idea if the upstream has an even keel. but with so many isp's thinking they are doing the world a great service with their zero tolerance attitudes, the potential for abuse is *enormous*. so yeah, i think strobes should be considered a bad thing, but as long as people can spoof traffic, i think strobes should be viewed as a reason for raised eyebrows, not the prelude to a panicked call to an upstream. like i said, my 2 cents. -jason storm negation industries
