Hello,

Yesterday I was wondering around on one of my systems when I noticed
something I hadn't seen in the /tmp filesystem before.
Does anyone know what a directory called .rpc_door would be doing in the
/tmp filesystem? There are also three subdirectories with a capitol
"D" for file type. What is the capitol "D" for?

James-

A "door" is a Solaris type of Inter-Process Communication (IPC). That
would explain both the ".rpc_door" name and the leading D in your included
ls output. The uppercase D is used by Solaris ls to indicate a door.

See <URI:http://docs.sun.com:80/ab2/coll.40.5/REFMAN1/@Ab2PageView/182013>
or the ls(1) man page for information on ls output under Solaris 7.

For more information on doors, see the man pages for door_bind(3)
door_call(3), door_create(3), door_cred(3), door_info(3), door_return(3),
door_revoke(3), door_server_create(3), and door_unbind(3), also available
from <URI:http://docs.sun.com:80/ab2/coll.40.5/REFMAN3/@Ab2TocView> (large
index).

I believe that the .rpc_door directory and the doors beneath start their
existence within the bowels of the RPC init scripts.
