I started down the path of 'information gathering' as well. But
retracted because of the application of a honeypot as a hindering
mechanism in which no real information would be gathered rather than
served.

Am I being to anal here, too detailed oriented? Without
the word monitoring, the defintion would look like this.

"A honeypot is an information system resource who's
value lies in unauthorized or illicit use of that
    resource"

Thoughts?

Since the idea that the honeypot is used to gather infomation how about:

"A honeypot is an information system resource who's
value lies in the information that is gathered from
unauthorized or illicit use of that resource"
