That's the thing. Neither ladysolly, nor Ann, needed to learn anything new 
when I switched them from Win/Explorer/Word to Linux/Whatever the browser 
is/OO. I know that, because they'd have asked me.

The recent experience with netbooks shows that your experience is
atypical. Netbooks were widely available with Linux and users rejected
them in droves, demanding (!) Windows XP instead.
