Your argument is apparently based on a) there's a need for proper identification and b) that federal identification papers can't be forged. If it's a terrorism argument, it's on weak ground: All of the terrorists who have struck this country have had valid identification (driver's licenses, visas, passports). And it is trivial to forge any public document (just go around the back alleys of East LA for an education in forgery). If you're trying to stop terrorism, identification won't do it. Hasn't worked in Israel (which has stringent mandates for identification) and hasn't worked in any other country. And if you're trying to stop illegal immigration, then we're back to square one: What problem are we actually trying to solve? Good point about another document :-) I think it would make sense to use the passport as the main federal id document. Unfortunately, people get only when they have to travel... I also think that it doesn't make sense to have 50 different types of driver's licenses. There should be one federal driver's license for all states. Because each state has its own license its easier to get away with a fake document... because there's probably a couple of people in the entire US who actually know how those 50 licenses really look like. Now that's a load of.. Listen, I have "proper documents" to prove I am a citizen of this country. Period. I have a a passport, a state driver's license, etc. I don't need another "unified identity document" to ensure I get added to the "master identification database". It's a flat-out foolish endeavor, and no good will come of it. - - ferg -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP Desktop 9.6.1 (Build 1012) wj8DBQFGTnXmq1pz9mNUZTMRAnioAJ9yVIQXqoUOWJ/yphu9pZCyf9qBOwCeKqDT WlAGRh8uoD2An/7EV7UcuGE= =jZWX -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- "Fergie", a.k.a.
