Close but no cee-gar. The physics behind the laser does indeed say that the photons are in phase. But it's interesting because they're *parallel*, and thus all the energy is deposited in one place. There's very few uses of lasers where the "in phase" actually matters (their use in polishing large astronomical mirrors comes to mind, but nothing else does. Maybe some photomicrolithography applications...
