Actually the reference in the conference call was to accessing Terminal Servers, and I assumed it was a mistaken reference to Longhorn Server's use of SSL to tunnel all RDP connections. Being client-only I don't see how Vista could be a complete solution. I sent in a question to Waggener Edstrom (the official MS Flack Firm) but have no response yet. He's probably talking about how Vista (and Longhorn) will be using IPSec as much as possible. One thing to keep in mind is that it will have to be a pure Windows environment, which will require not only Vista, but also the latest server OS. My guess it will be using Kerberos for IPSec authentication (which is a Microsoft only IPSec authentication method) and Kerberos for user authentication (so there's no need for L2TP and traditional VPNs) and Group Policy using Active Directory to set things up transparently (without users even knowing what's going on). In a conference call Wednesday, Goldberg said the new operating system would allow people to log onto their office's system remotely without needing to connect through a virtual private network, or VPN, which some users find cumbersome. What is this all about? BTW, in the three vista articles linked by Google News, this one is the only one that comes close to talking about least priv. http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/business/technology/13935549. htm -Todd _______________________________________________ Fun and Misc security discussion for OT posts. https://linuxbox.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/funsec Note: funsec is a public and open mailing list. _______________________________________________ Fun and Misc security discussion for OT posts. https://linuxbox.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/funsec Note: funsec is a public and open mailing list. _______________________________________________ Fun and Misc security discussion for OT posts. https://linuxbox.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/funsec Note: funsec is a public and open mailing list.
