This is standard in most languages. The biggest advice I give out to  
people is to look for spelling, grammar and punctuation errors.

The number one identifier for English scams (in the UK) is the use of  
American spelling - too many z's and too few u's should spark alarm  
bells...

I've started grading 419s for the quality of their English and sending  
them back with a score out of 10 on the bottom :-)
